KeitaiArts Releases GameQuartet - Four Casual Games in One iPhone App

September 2, 2010

Taos, New Mexico - KeitaiArts announces the release of its first game for iPhone and iPod touch, GameQuartet 1.0. GameQuartet packages four newly created, casual games in a single app: Peg Solitaire, Boule, Sliding Tiles, and Word Squares. Boule is an unusual version of roulette, while the other three games are unique puzzles. Early users report finding the graphics striking and the games challenging, but easy to learn.

The four games are based on classic entertainments, brought into the touch-screen era through the creative use of graphics, animation, sound effects, and device movements. The games were designed to be challenging, yet casual. Scrolling text messages provide clear instructions for each stage of the games and let users begin play immediately, while full online help is available for those who want the details.

Other Features

The Games

Peg Solitaire is based on the classic board puzzle that is traditionally played with small pegs or marbles. According to legend, the game was invented by a French aristocrat imprisoned in the Bastille in the seventeenth century. The GameQuartet version enlivens the original puzzle with entertaining animations and sound effects, as the player attempts to clear the board by jumping the pegs.

Boule is based on an uncommon form of roulette that originated in the eighteenth century and is played today primarily in France. The GameQuartet version, with its animated layout board and rolling ball, looks and sounds much like the original casino game.

Sliding Tiles is based on the traditional sliding-tile pocket puzzle, which was invented in America toward the end of the nineteenth century. Rather than showing numbers on the 15 tiles, however, Sliding Tiles displays a mathematically generated pattern, which varies from game to game. Sliding Tiles combines the visual challenge of a jigsaw puzzle with the mechanical challenge involved in moving the tiles to their correct positions.

Word Squares is a word puzzle based on the popular word-square amusements that originated in nineteenth century England. The GameQuartet version provides 30 different games. The concept of a word square is simple, but the game is surprisingly challenging.
